Measure the furniture at its widest points, then check the narrowest doorway and any tight turn on the route out. A sofa that fits the room may still be difficult to move through a hall. Tell the removal team about stairs and elevators before the estimate.
Make a useful item list
Write down each piece, its room and floor level. Mark pieces that are especially heavy, damaged or likely to need disassembly. Empty drawers and remove small loose items so they do not fall during the move.
Choose what stays
Put a clear note on pieces that should remain in the home. If furniture is being replaced, coordinate the delivery and removal dates so the old piece is accessible without blocking the new one.
Pickup checklist
Count the pieces; measure large items and narrow openings; note stairs, elevators and parking; empty drawers; identify keep items; ask whether disassembly is included in the estimate.
